Thunderball Grotto is a sea cave used in two James Bond films and is one of the most magical snorkeling spots in the entire Caribbean — fish swarm inside the cave in glittering shafts of light. Access is by boat only (water taxis from Staniel Cay run approximately $20-$40 round trip), and the swim into the cave is manageable for confident swimmers ages 7 and up. Visit at low tide when the cave entrance is easiest to access and the interior light is most dramatic — typically around mid-morning. Life jackets and snorkel gear are available for rent on Staniel Cay. Skip this stop if you have children who are not yet comfortable swimming in open water without touching the bottom.
