The Sunday Walking Street on Wualai Road is a slower-paced and more local alternative to the tourist-heavy Saturday night market, stretching about 1km through Chiang Mai’s traditional silver-crafting neighborhood south of the Old City. The market runs every Sunday from approximately 4pm to 10pm; the wide flat road is closed to traffic making it very stroller-friendly. Kids will love the cheap street food — mango sticky rice, grilled corn, fresh-squeezed juices, and Thai crepes — with most snacks costing 20-60 THB ($0.50-$1.75 USD). Arrive by 5:30pm to get ahead of the thickest crowds and to claim a good eating spot on a side curb before the road fills up. Light breathable clothing and hand sanitizer are recommended as evenings in hot season (March-May) are still quite warm.
