Rockaway Beach is free to access and is one of the only ocean beaches within New York City limits, open daily during summer from 9am to 6pm for supervised swimming. Skip the central beach blocks 7-12 on peak summer weekends — head to blocks 14-17 for more breathing room. Do not miss the Rockaway Taco or nearby concession stands on the boardwalk for a casual family lunch. Lifeguards are on duty mid-June through Labor Day. Take the A train to Broad Channel or Rockaway Park for a car-free adventure the kids will love.
