Kids enjoy spotting koi and turtles in the canal alongside the path at any time of year. Dozens of small cafes and bakeries line the route — budget 500-1,500 JPY (~$3.50-$10) for snacks or light lunch stops. Visit mid-morning on weekdays; weekends get congested near the Nanzenji end. Skip the northern section past Eikan-do temple if walking with toddlers as it narrows considerably.
