Day use entry is $5 per vehicle and the park is open daily from 6:30am to sunset year-round. The Sandy River beach areas are a huge hit with kids in summer — bring water shoes as the riverbed is rocky and the current can be swift so stay in the calm shallow coves. Old-growth Douglas fir trails are genuinely stunning and several loop options range from 1 to 4 miles depending on your group’s stamina. Skip the river entirely after heavy rainfall as water levels rise quickly and the banks become slippery and unsafe. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed at all times, making it a great option for families with pets.
