North Avenue Beach is Chicago’s most family-friendly lakefront beach with a wide sandy shore, calm Lake Michigan water, and a lifeguard-staffed swim area from June through Labor Day. The beach house has clean restrooms, outdoor showers, and a snack bar — a major plus with sandy kids in tow. Strollers push well along the lakefront path but will struggle in the sand itself, so a beach wagon or backpack carrier is recommended. Arrive before 10am on summer weekends to secure a good spot; by noon the beach is packed. Street parking along Lake Shore Dr is extremely limited — the Clark/Division CTA Red Line stop is about a 10-minute walk, making transit the smarter option.
