The Ancient Town pedestrian zone is closed to motorbikes in the evenings making it one of the most stroller- and kid-friendly walkable areas in Vietnam. Entry to the historic zone requires a ticket (approximately 120,000 VND / $5 USD per adult; children under 7 enter free) which covers access to five heritage house attractions. The Lantern Festival happens on the 14th of each lunar month when paper lanterns float on the Thu Bon River — kids can purchase a small floating lantern from riverside vendors for roughly 20,000 VND ($1 USD). Come before 5pm to avoid peak crowd congestion on the narrow streets and dress kids in light breathable clothing as humidity is intense from April through September. Strollers are manageable on the flat stone streets but some heritage house interiors have raised wooden thresholds.
