Seoul’s grandest royal palace and the most kid-magnetic history site in the city, especially for the free Changing of the Royal Guard ceremony held daily at 10am and 2pm at the main Gwanghwamun Gate. Admission is 3,000 KRW ($2.25) per adult and free for children under 24, with free entry for all on the last Wednesday of each month. Open Tuesday through Sunday 9am to 5pm (6pm March through October). Families who rent traditional hanbok costumes from shops surrounding the palace (approx 10,000-15,000 KRW / $7-$11 for 2 hours) get free admission — the single best value trick at any Seoul attraction. The grounds are largely flat and subway Line 3 Gyeongbokgung Station exits right to the front gate.
