Entry to the shrine and the iconic orange torii gate tunnels is completely free and open 24 hours. With young children, walk only the first 20-30 minutes up to Senbon Torii — the full summit hike is 2+ hours with steep, uneven stone steps. Strollers can handle the main entrance plaza but must be left at the base; a backpack carrier is strongly recommended for toddlers. The best family time window is 7am-9am before tour groups arrive. Food stalls near the base sell inari-zushi (fox sushi) for about 200 JPY (~$1.40) — a fun and thematic snack for kids.
