Frankton Beach is Lake Wakatipu’s most accessible family shoreline with a shallow, gently sloping entry perfect for young kids to wade safely. The water is glacier-fed and cold year-round — water shoes are strongly recommended and kids tire of actual swimming quickly, but the pebble-and-sand shoreline is excellent for play. Free parking is plentiful in the adjacent lot off Frankton Road. Clean public toilets and a small grassy reserve with picnic tables are steps from the water. The flat lakefront path connects to the Queenstown Trail cycleway if you want to extend the outing.
