A rescue and rehabilitation sanctuary about 60km north of central Chiang Mai, widely regarded as the most ethical elephant experience in northern Thailand — no riding, no performing, only observation and feeding. Full-day tours run approximately 2,500-3,500 THB (roughly $70-100 USD) per person and include lunch, a guide, and transport from the city. Most programs require children to be at least 6 years old; the best fit is school-age kids and older who can follow safety instructions around large animals. The terrain is uneven and muddy in wet season (June-October), so strollers are not practical; closed-toe shoes and lightweight long pants are strongly recommended. Book well in advance as spots fill up weeks ahead, especially November through February during peak season.
