The Astronomical Clock (Orloj) puts on a brief mechanical parade of apostle figures every hour on the hour — position yourselves in the square at least 10 minutes early as crowds form fast. Climbing the Old Town Hall Tower for the view above the clock costs approx. 250 CZK / $11 USD for adults and 170 CZK / $7.50 USD for children; the narrow staircase is not suitable for strollers. Directly around the square, several permanent puppet and marionette shops sell traditional Czech hand-carved marionettes — a witch, a knight, or a jester makes an unforgettable souvenir for around 200-500 CZK ($9-22 USD). For a longer puppet experience the National Marionette Theatre nearby runs regular family performances; check schedules at mozart.cz. Visit the square before 9am to enjoy it without the intense midday crowds especially in July and August.
