Admission is approximately INR 200 for Indian nationals and INR 550 (around $6.50 USD) for foreign visitors, with children under 7 free. The fort is open daily 8am to 5:30pm and gets extremely crowded by mid-morning so arrive right at opening to beat tour groups and the heat. The uphill walk to the main gate is steep and uneven — skip the elephant rides on ethical grounds and opt for the jeep shuttle (INR 100 per person) if you have small kids. Strollers are not practical on the cobblestoned ramps; a carrier or piggyback for under-5s works best. The Sheesh Mahal (Hall of Mirrors) is the undisputed highlight for kids — budget at least 90 minutes total and bring water as shade is limited in the outer courtyards.
